New Mechanics: Fusion Evolve and Ki

Fusion Evolve

The headline mechanic and the set's namesake. Fusion Evolve is an evolution of the [Evolve] keyword first introduced in FB07, but with a significant twist:

  • A card with [Fusion Evolve] can be played from your hand in Active Mode
  • You stack it on top of two specified Battle Cards with equal power already on your field
  • This represents the iconic Dragon Ball fusion concept directly in gameplay — Goku + Vegeta = Gogeta

Where standard [Evolve] requires one source card, Fusion Evolve requires two. This creates interesting deckbuilding decisions: you need both fusion components on the field before you can play the fused form, but the payoff is a powerful Active-mode card that can attack immediately.

Fusion Evolve — How It Works

  • Requirement: Two specified Battle Cards with equal power on your field
  • Action: Play the Fusion Evolve card from your hand, stacking on both sources
  • Result: The fused card enters in Active Mode — it can attack immediately
  • Example: Son Goku + Vegeta on field → play Gogeta via Fusion Evolve → attack right away

Ki

A completely new energy sub-system. [Ki] markers are placed under cards and can be accumulated, spent, or referenced to activate various skills. This adds a new strategic layer on top of the existing energy marker system.

Competitive Note: One revealed Leader awakens when its Ki reaches 2 or more, then gains 25,000 power during your turn and +1 Ki when it attacks. This creates a build-up dynamic where your Leader grows more powerful over several turns — a completely new tempo style for Fusion World.

Leaders: Three Gogetas and More

FB09 includes 5 new Leader cards — and three of them are Gogeta variants:

Leader Source Material
Gogeta : BR Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie
Son Goku / Vegeta Dual-character Leader (transforms into Gogeta via Fusion Evolve)
Gogeta : GT Dragon Ball GT — SSJ4 Gogeta
Son Goku Standard Goku
Son Gohan : SH Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero

The heavy Gogeta focus ties directly to the "Dual Evolution" theme — fusion being the ultimate dual evolution in Dragon Ball lore. The Son Goku / Vegeta dual Leader is especially exciting, as it transforms into a Gogeta form via the Fusion Evolve mechanic during gameplay.

Chase Cards and Collector Highlights

First-Ever Leader Double Star Rarity

FB09 introduces the Leader (double star) rarity — a premium Leader card with enhanced foil treatment beyond standard Leaders. This is the first time Fusion World has offered Leader cards at a higher collector rarity, making them major chase pieces for completionists.

3 Secret Rare (SCR) Cards

All three SCRs feature Super Alt-Art treatments described as "ultra-luxurious." Given that FB08's SCRs (Son Goten, Broly) set the collector standard, FB09's Gogeta-themed SCRs could be the most sought-after Fusion World cards to date.

Alt-Art Coverage in FB09

  • All 5 Leaders have Alt-Art versions
  • All 15 Super Rares have Alt-Art versions
  • Visual Alt-Art cards depicting iconic Dragon Ball scenes
  • Super Combo Alt-Art designs
  • 3 SCR Super Alt-Art treatments (new for 2nd Anniversary)
